Different types of kids
One has to accept the point that a few children are natural readers with special skills imbibed in them. These kids love to investigate diversified books and in the process are picking up new reading skills. They do not require any special effort to do the same and they just try to get involved by reading more and more. These kids pick up the rudiments of reading naturally.
The other kids face more difficulty than the above mentioned ones in tackling the printed language. They require relating a particular sound with a particular combination of letters and alphabets. It is this combination of certain letters that are pronounced differently which are known as phonics. When kids are learning to read they are taught about this beauty of the written language and how the pronunciation of the same changes when spoken.
Why should `tion’ sound like shun?
While kids are learning to read they might encounter problems with phonics. They are dumbfounded with the strange manner in which a word is pronounced far differently in respect to their combination of alphabets. Why should `tion’ not sound like `teon’ and be pronounced like `shun’?
For the parents, this is the most opportune moment to teach and be like educators to rudiments of pronunciation to their kids. It also helps to lay a solid foundation to their kids’ reading career. The parents should take all necessary steps to help their child speak out the different words and combination of letters in the way that is adjudged by the law of phonics.
Phonics is not as tough as it looks at first glance. A little bit of research is all that is required. Once the kids get the basics right, then they will be able to speak the phonetically pronounced words without a hitch.
